Have you kissed a wolf today? Mile 49.5/278.5: Junction with HATCHER PASS ROAD, a scenic 49-mile long loop that joins the PARKS HIGHWAY at Willow. Access to Independence Mine State Historical Park. There is a campground at Willow Creek State Recreation Area (mile 1.2) and a private RV Park at mile 33 (status unknown). Road has been improved from the Glenn Highway junction to the mine. Mile 35.3 Junction with the George Parks Highway to Denali National Park and Fairbanks. Continue scrolling up on this page for Glennallen and Tok, down for Anchorage. Mile 29.6/298.4: Junction with OLD GLENN HIGHWAY, a scenic alternate route that rejoins the Glenn Highway in Palmer. At mile 8.4 Kniik River leads to glacier views, waterfall, river access. Knik Glacier Tours advertises free RV and tent sites with tour. Mountain View RV is at mile 15.5 (Smith Road), 3 miles from the Palmer junction. Mile 21.5/306.5: WILBER'S LEGENDARY PETERS CREEK "PETITE" RV PARK 688-2487 Located 21.5 miles north of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway. There are 30 total campsites, of which 17 have full and seven have partial hookups. There are also six tent sites and two pull-throughs. Facilities include full hookups, water, tent sites, and sewage dump. Take the South Peters Creek exit to the west, turn left at the T. Peters Creek is convenient to Anchorage and Mat-Su Valley attractions. The Bella Vista Restaurant is next door. The scenic wonders of Chugach State Park, Eklutna Lake, and Thunderbird Falls are nearby. Open mid-May to 1 October.
