GROPP'S GLACIERVIEW GETAWAY RV PARK
Alaska residents Jim and Mary
Gropp, formerly from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, welcome you to We offer dry camping, with electricity available. Our sites are large and easy to get into and out of. Every site has a picnic table. A free dump station, public restrooms, pay showers, and laundromat are conveniently located a short drive from your campsite, at Seward.
Enjoy a spectacular glacier view from your campsite. Click here for a winter view.
On the way back from Exit Glacier, stop and visit with the famous Iditarod mushers, the Seavey family. Take a dog sled ride and tour their kennels. At Gropp's you are just minutes away from all of Seward's attractions. Visit Mile "0" of the Historic Iditarod Trail. Tour the Alaska Sea Life Center where you can see seals, sea lions, sea otters, puffins and other Alaska marine life. Enjoy a trip to the past at the Seward Museum, and view the earthquake movie at the Public Library.
At the small boat harbor watch the day's catch being weighed from 4 - 6 p.m. Stroll among the boats, shop the specialty stores, enjoy an espresso or ice cream. Book a charter for world class fishing for halibut and salmon. Have your fish cleaned, packed and shipped. Salmon can be fished and snagged from the shore. If fishing isn't your thing, join a sightseeing cruise. Half day cruises to the mouth of Resurrection Bay offer a chance to see humpback and killer whales. Full day cruises tour calving glaciers at Kenai Fjords National Park. Flightseeing opportunities are also available.
See where the Alaska Railroad had its beginning in 1903. Visit the Alaska Marine Highway dock where weekly ferry connections can be made to all Alaska seaports. The cruise ship and coal docks are located in the same area. Hiking, birding, sea kayaking, sailing, horseback riding, lake and stream fishing, salmon viewing, art galleries, studios, gift and curio shops are all only minutes away from Gropp's Glacierview Getaway. Remember, half the fun of being here is getting here. South of Anchorage the Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway, winds around Turnagain Arm past Portage Glacier. Watch for sheep on the rocky slopes, and if you're really lucky you'll see a bore tide. Take the MV Ptarmigan cruise to Portage Glacier, or hike to nearby Byron Glacier.
Slow down, enjoy the sights, and remember to find a safe place to pull over if you're blocking five or more vehicles. It's not just being nice; it's the law. Headlights are also required at all times on the Kenai Peninsula. Gropp's Glacerview Getaway is located at mile marker 133.8/3.2 of the Seward Highway. Turn off on Nash Road. Drive a half mile. After crossing the tracks and bridge, turn left into the RV Park. If no one is around please self-register.
