ATLIN ROAD RV PARKS AND CAMPGROUNDS

From Jake's Corner at mile 866, the Atlin Road runs 60 miles to the small artist's colony of Atlin. The town sits beside scenic Atlin Lake, with the view across the lake dominated by Birch Mountain, the highest peak to rise out of a fresh water lake in the world (6,755'). Houseboat rentals, fly-in fishing charters, and dinner cruises are available. Atlin Provincial Park, at the south end of the lake, is accessible only by boat or air. The road to Atlin skirts Little Atlin Lake. The first 40 miles are gravel, and conditions vary according to weather and maintenance schedules, The last 20 miles are new black top. The two Provincial Park campgrounds are small and well off the main road. There is a rest area with camp sites along the lake on the right. The campsites south of Atlin are one or two site mud holes with one toilet. Very difficult to get in and out of, but some are lakefront locations. The two roads out of Atlin offer scenery and wildlife viewing. Watch for a waterfalls below and south of Discovery Road at mile 3.5. Also note the many piles of gravel left by gold dredges. Just past the falls look for Spruce Creek Road, a rough route to commercial gold mines and recreational panning areas. Because the mountain scenery is all to the west and across the lake, you should plan to go to Atlin on a clear day with minimal haze.
