Anchorage - Mat-Su Valley Wasilla, Palmer, Willow ALASKA RV PARKS AND CAMPGROUNDS The Mat-Su (Matanuska-Susitna Valley) tourism area is defined here as being west of Eureka Summit (mile 130) on the Glenn Highway. To the north, the Mat-Su area ends at Talkeetna and Trapper Creek on the Parks Highway. For campgrounds further north, see the Denali-Fairbanks section. South of Anchorage, on the Seward Highway, see the Kenai Peninsula page. All of the highways in this area are in good driving condition. Much of the Glenn Highway has been improved in recent years, but there could be construction areas in some spots. There are several new rest areas, and better views to the south approaching Palmer from the east. West of Matanuska Glacier the highway negotiates several deep gulches, and is steep and winding.
