For a continuation of Alaska Highway listings in Alaska, turn to the ALASKA HIGHWAY, AK page. Note that mileage in Alaska is based on mile markers placed along the road, and there is a 32 mile discrepancy between actual and historical miles between Dawson Creek and the border. In Alaska, it is unlawful to fail to yield (pull off) when impeding five or more vehicles. Watch your back! Also watch for wildlife. In a vehicle-moose crash, everyone loses. You will encounter pavement breaks and frost heaves driving through interior Alaska. Slow down to a comfortable speed, rather than try to brake whenever a bump or break occurs. Note the rubber on the road where others have bottomed out. Overnight parking is allowed at rest areas unless otherwise posted. It is generally not allowed along Turnagain Arm, on the Kenai Peninsula, and in the Denali National Park area. Headlights required on Kenai Peninsula. Change clocks one hour back to Alaska time. |
